I've been renovating an old home that's been in the family for quite some time. We're finally at the parlor floor, and would like to get down to the original plank flooring... but the problem is - it's been painted over and linoleum'd for decades. We got the linoleum up, no problem, but were surprised with the amount of paint...there are as far as i can tell 10-15 layers of paint, up to 1/4" in some spots. I used a belt sander with an aggressive grit to see where things stood, and it was very tough going. It's oil based paint, it seems, and after the first few layers, it just started gooifying the remaining layers, hindering the process. I'm also worried about tearing up the wood with this process.should I be chemical stripping at this point, and saving the sanding until i "see daylight" ? via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2GGydSt
