My ex and I share joint custody of our 2 teenagers. Our divorce decree doesn't state which parent claims which child. I have been claiming the youngest for the last 10 years and she has claimed the oldest on taxes as dependents. Last May, the oldest moved in with me full time. The youngest continues to split time between the two homes nearly 50-50, with the occasionally extra time at my house. I had planned to claim both kids as dependents on my 2017 taxes--the youngest, since I have been for the last decade, and now the oldest, since he has lived full time in my home for the last 7 months. My ex has been paying me child support for the oldest for those 7 months.

I informed my ex my filing plans and she first requested that we "trade" exemptions--she would claim the youngest and I would claim the oldest. I declined. She now wants to "alternate" the claiming of the youngest as a dependent each year--me this year, her next year, and so on.

Any advice?
