My wife and I purchased a small 1050sq foot home (with partially finished basement where we have the living room). The problem is, the house is made out of block with stucco on the outside and we live in New England. There is no insulation in the walls. The only way to really insulate would be to frame out all the walls and put insulation in them and this would mean losing living space and sqaure footage, which would decrease the value of the home. The bedroom area is always cold due to air leaks. Do any any of you have any frugal ideas on how to save on energy costs? We already heat with wood that I get for free from my brother in law in a wood stove, but the thermostat is in that main room and we lose a lot of the heat.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
