Capital one bank did a hard credit inquiry while I am two weeks away from closing on a mortgage. I noticed the pull, and contacted capital one. They denied pulling my credit for two days. I then contacted the credit bureaus and disputed the pull.

On the third day of complaining to capital one, they admitted that a fraud case had been opened about an application submitted over the internet. I disputed the application through capital one once this information was released to me.

On the fifth day I recieved a letter in the mail from capital one dated prior to me noticing the hard pull, that they think a fraudulent application was submitted!

So basically they suspected fraud all along, did a hard credit pull, and then either lied about it, or were completely incompetent about what was going on when I contacted them. Everyone involved is saying this will take 90 days to fix.

Is this going to mess up my mortgage? Why would capital one do a hard pull if they suspected fraud from the beginning? Why did they deny everything from the beginning? I have requested all documentation and proof of the application from capital one and they have refused to provide it to me. I am furious with capital one. Their incompetence is mind blowing, I have spent well over 10 hours on the phone and probably half of that on hold. Help!
