So my friend has worked at this 6 person wine, beer and liquor company for 3.5 years. She has been thinking about leaving for a while, and started looking at other jobs/making plans to take a trip to Europe to network with people she met in the industry. In this past month, she found out that the owner/her boss has stage 4 cancer- it is currently a secret though. Is there an appropriate way to ask for a raise, since she has taken on a lot of work these past few months/year? That way she can stay working for a little while without quitting on her boss at this time and also not hating her life, while also being respectful of her boss’s illness. To be fair to my friend, she has been frustrated with her boss for a long time, but now feels guilty about the situation.
