I'm trying to get to a place where I have as little involvement as possible in the industrial tendencies of monoculture and extraction. My current plan involves searching craigslist for the best deal I can find on a 3rd gen Toyota 4Runner to live in and drive to new hampshire in the spring. I have about $4500 right now and I'm hoping to spend 3000 of it total on getting a 4runner up to a decent level of functionality and reliability.. then I have to spend about 600 of what's left on tying up loose ends with civilization.. another hundred or so on other supplies (I already have most of what I'd need besides the vehicle) and then.. approximately 800 to spend on whatever else I need for the rest of my life apparently. so I'm planning on finding as many fresh water springs as possible and fishing more once I get to new hampshire. also I'm really into harvesting, processing, and propagating wild nuts and interested in wild foods in general.. I suspect 800 for the rest of my life is unrealistic, but I would consider being involved in cash transactions still on occasion if the exchange was beneficial enough for everyone involved.. I am 24 and I haven't been able to find anyone else who I could do this with. but I have come into contact with a couple locations in NH where I may be able to temporarily live on the land in exchange for helping with their projects. so far almost all my life has been a rather conventional upper middle class urban-suburban lifestyle surrounded by cities and pollution. it makes me hate myself all the time. long-term I'd like to find somewhere I can build a house with my own hands out of natural materials and either start a school teaching people about economic self-sufficiency (if I ever get to a point where I am experienced enough to teach that) or a family or a seed library or something to try and improve the habitats that humans in the future will live as part of...

I know some people think it's unrealistic to try and even live with few currency transactions, but is it ACTUALLY unrealistic to live with near-zero currency transactions and by supporting the productivity of your immediate surroundings enough to be able to sustain yourself through direct interactions with those surroundings using as much local technology as possible?

I suppose by posting this here I am really mostly hoping that I will encounter someone else with compatible goals who I may be able to collaborate with. if anyone reads this and has any potential interest in that, I would be glad to hear from you.
