I’m at currently attempting to file my taxes with TurboTax. For some reason when applying the American Opportunity tax credit, it only gives me $1000 instead of the total $2,500. I looked it up and it says if you owe taxes it will only give you 40% ($1000). I do not owe any money form income taxes. Does anyone know why this is? Is there anything I can do to get the full amount? I’ve received it the past couple years of college, and as an extremely broke engineering student, I was really relying on getting this tax credit this year. Thank you very much for your help.
Edit: Also I wanted to point out that my tuition was over $10,000 last year so I’m well Obote the limit to get the full credit.
