Hi guys! I generally lurk here but figured this would be a great place to ask for advice.
I currently live in a 2bed/2 bath apartment with a room mate in an admittedly more expensive area right outside the city. I'm tired of having a room mate and really need my own place. I have been looking at studio apartments that are inside city limits and more within my budget, but I would love to hear some tips and tricks to kick my savings account into motion.
Here are some things I already do:
-Make my own food (always have dry beans/rice, frozen vegetables/ oatmeal, etc.) -My parents let me do laundry at their place -I turn off the AC and open windows/balcony door when the weather is nice enough Edit -I use the apartment gym rather than paying to go to a gym -I don't have cable- my lovely father is allowing me to be a barnacle on his account -I guess I owe my dad a lot, because he also is allowing me to stay on his phone bill as well without paying because he works for the company and gets a rather large discount.
I don't make too much, and am in the process of getting a pay raise at work, but I still am struggling to get my savings account going. I have a small dog who is going through heart worm treatment, and I need a cushion for any emergency vet visits. I also need new brakes for my car and tires within the next year or two.
Any other ideas that can help me cut back on certain areas?
I work graveyard shift and sleep most of the day, so aimlessly spending money is not a problem for me. Everything is closed by the time I wake up for work.
