My husband and I are in our early thirties. We are recently married and will be having children in the near future. We are extremely fortunate that our house is mortgage free. It is big enough for us to live in long term and close to family, but ideally I would like to buy our forever home in a nicer area in the future.

Our income is accruing in our bank accounts and I am unsure what to do with this. I want to live a simple, stress free life and give our children the best possible future. I feel by being mortgage free at this age we are in a position to achieve this. Some of my thoughts with the money we save up over the ten years are as follows:

  • Decorate current home as it is all the previous owners interior
  • Build our dream home from scratch and to a very high specification
  • Private education for the children
  • Lots of holidays and experiences
  • Investments such as shares and properties
  • Let it build up and do not touch it

Even though we are mortgage free, I am finding myself counting every penny and not really enjoying life, and worrying about the future. This is everything against simple living, so I am just interested as to what you would do if you was in this position?
