I'm 33 years old and have always loved working with numbers. For the last few years, I did my own taxes on TaxAct or TurboTax and each year, I have this unsettling feeling that I don't really know what I'm agreeing to, yet don't care so much as long as a refund will be rolling in.

I can't ignore this feeling anymore. I want to know all that goes into my taxes, understand why deductions and taxes are the way they are on my paycheck and ultimately, begin to prepare my own taxes with confidence and then begin to prepare others' taxes. (Strictly personal income taxes - not looking to get into business tax accounting just yet.)

Where do I start? I'm looking for introductory courses and I don't feel comfortable just picking the first ad I see pop up stating "ONLY $497 TO LEARN THE BASICS" only to find out I'm funding a terrorist organization or something.

I trust this subreddit more than I do most anyone else when it comes to financial questions so there it is. Where do you recommend I begin?
