We had an external balcony built this summer (and love it!), but now windy, rainy weather has set in and rain is getting blown onto the balcony where it’s forming a large puddle. The contractors are coming back in a few days for a snagging discussion, and I wonder if anyone can help me understand what solutions are possible, and what questions I should ask.My (non-technical) understanding is that it’s a solid concrete plinth with a cement skim. There’s no room to build it up towards the house as the door is floor-mounted. It’s 2 metres deep (ie from house to edge). It’s covered by a roof which extends about 10cm beyond each edge.Should it be straightforward to grind a shallow slope into the surface? A quick google suggests a 1 degree slope would be needed, which would mean the edge would be about 4cm lower. This would be a big change to the appearance: can I get away with less?Alternatively, would cutting some small drainage channels work? Perhaps as a first experiment? The contractors weren’t very pro-active in suggesting solutions during the build, so I’d like to have a few ideas to take into the conversation. Thanks for any ideas. If there is a better subreddit for this question, please let me know. via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2mmLCDT
