So I recently just started a Roth IRA at the age of 21 and have been doing a little bit of research for a proper portfolio. I’ve decided to start with the 80/20 approach, with 80% of my portfolio in stock ETFs and 20% in bond ETFs (like Vanguard’s BND), and change that allocation as I age.
But I could use a little bit of insight when allocating in the stock portion of my portfolio. Here’s what I came up with:
- 70% in an S&P 500 ETF, like VOO
- 10% in an S&P Mid-Cap ETF, like IVOO
- 10% in an S&P Small-Cap ETF, like VIOO
- 10% in an international ETF, like VXUS
Would this be an appropriate strategy for saving for retirement or am I over-complicating things?
