I received a bill from the IRS due to 2 errors made on my 2015 tax return. I filled out form 1040.

  1. I deducted too much student loan interest on line 33 of my 1040. It should have been 80% of the total interest due to my income being too high to deduct the full amount.

  2. I made a mistake on line 7 (wages) and swapped 2 digits by accident making my wages higher than what is listed on form 1099. My total income on line 22 is correct though based on what is actually on my 1099. The IRS, however, calculated the total based on what I filled in on line 7 and adjusted my total income to be higher due to my error.

IRS sent me a bill for $70 and it is due on January 1. I did the calculations and I basically owe $45 for my error with the student loan and they're trying to collect $25 based on adjusting my total income from the error I made on wages.

Can I call the IRS and get a revised bill or do I have any other course of action? Thanks.
