A big warning because this just happened to me last week- if you start getting frequent spam calls, texts, and emails please call your bank immediately. Last Thursday night I started getting 2 or 3 calls every minute. Each one was just Christmas music playing on a loop and each one left a 1:10 voicemail. I then started getting upwards of 8 texts a minute. Then constant emails that signed me up for god knows how many online subscriptions. I googled everything I could think of and nothing came up about what I was going through.

I called my cell provider to see what they could do about the calls and texts, thinking it was a prank. The calls were bounced all over open lines across the US so they said I could change my number or wait for the do-not-call list to register my request. I have a lot of accounts that have 2-step access which sends a text so I decide to shut it off and change my number when I get home and have access to my computer (i work night shift so it wouldn’t be for another 9 hours).

The first thing I check is my bank account. I have $7 in one account and $0.41 in another. While all of the texts, emails, and calls flooded my phone the fraud department was unable to get ahold of me. Someone had skimmed my debit card and someone made a copy 6 states away- draining my money from ATMs (I already restricted the daily withdrawal limit already- I wish I had done so earlier).

After hours of dealing with the bank, FTC, police reports, and credit bureaus I was able to clear everything up. It took almost a week to get access to my money. I had to call every bill account and tell them that I can’t pay them on time and why, and whatever happened to my phone never stopped so I still had to change my number. The spam emails have started to be recognized and filtered but I still get 5 or 6 a day. The first night I had 1800 new emails...

The most irritating thing is that I sell real estate on the side- mostly for friends and family. So all of my signs, website, and advertising that I bought all have my old number and need to be replaced. The whole thing has been such a hassle and pretty much the most irritating week of my life. Luckily my wife has a separate account so I had gas money.

TLDR: if you start getting a TON of calls and texts flooding access to your phone- call your bank because you’re being cleaned out.

Please excuse grammar or spelling- I’m on mobile in the car waiting for the wife to get out of Ulta. That store is a drag.
