It couldn't have been just me.
When I was in highschool, I found this website http://ift.tt/2nRUiW0.
It basically gamified free trials and referrals, and there were actual payouts based on how many you signed up for (needed a credit card). As long as you could remember to cancel in time (to things like Stamps.com) you didnt get charged.
In exchange, you were put in a 'conga line' of people. When it was your turn in line, people would click on your referral link until you complete the requirement.
I think something like 20 referrals was an Xbox or Ipod or basically anything you wanted (including straight cash).
You could also pay people straight up to sign up under your referral (pay $50 for referrals for a $400 ipad).
I think I actually got an Ipad, Aeropostal clothing (go '00s!), maybe some other tech.
What were those things called? Did that system actually have a name?
