Not a high-priced item, but I've always been unhappy with emory board nail files. They wear out quickly from use. And if you get them wet, game over.
And metal files do more damage than good. They're just too coarse. And they rust!
For about 4 years, I've been using this Czech crystal set. (Or are they just glass? I'm not sure if the crystal part is just marketing nonsense.) Apart from a few chips on one of them from dropping it on a tile floor, they're still in great shape. No sign of wear on the filing surface. And compared to emory and metal, they work the best.
Here is a current photo of the two I use. The set also comes with a third larger one, but I never use it.
