Hey PF,
Throwaway account due to small industry. I apologize for formatting -I'm on mobile.
I've been with my current employer for over 5 years, a few months ago company was sold. I have a new boss and entirely new senior leadership, essentially as if I changed jobs but all my seniority/perks came along, but basically have to prove myself all over again. I've always been well respected at current company, and takeover company seems to feel the same so far. According to my new boss, who I like and have come to respect so far, I have made very positive impressions with senior leadership.
However, an opportunity came up with a different employer that would increase my salary 20%, increase responsibility/would be great for resume to break into next level management and better benefits. It seemed to be a no brainer from a financial perspective.
I gave notice to current employer yesterday and was told that they have big plans for growing my career (we've previously discussed my growth aspirations during take-over) and they would love an opportunity to counter and don't want to let me go.
I have a meeting with boss later this afternoon and really don't know how to approach this.
I'm not leaving because I feel undervalued or really even underpaid for what my current role is. I want to speed along growth in my career, but new position is same title, just a larger group to oversee (10 people reporting to me vs 4). Current company has similar roles (though not sure if currently available), or could possibly pave way for me to bump up to mid-level manager - which we've discussed my aspirations, but they've only worked with me a few months/still assessing.
Any suggestions how to approach meeting with boss?
Thanks!
