I broke my arm recently, and was rushed into surgery at a non-profit hospital. I just talked to someone in their financial department and she said it would be $700/mo for the next 36 months, coming out to about $25k. This seems like an insane amount to me. I told her I was self-pay and asked what kind of discount she can get for me, and she said she would talk to her manager.

Is there anything else I can do to cut this down? I applied for insurance after because I obviously don't want to go through this again, is there any way I can back-date my coverage to cover this? (Figure that one is a no, but it's worth a shot.)
