I originally posted this in /r/mealprep but am cross posting it here in an attempt to get a wider response.

For those of you who meal prep

I have two daughters (4th and 6th grade) that I need meal prep recipes for. Here are my constraints/assumptions:

  • The meals will be eaten at room temperature (luke warm at best) as they will not have access to even a microwave at school.
  • There is ample time in the morning to heat the meal before going to school
  • They are both skilled enough in the kitchen to do basic "finish work" in the morning if necessary before school
  • We will need complete recipes and not just ideas as we are brand new to this
  • Our primary protein is chicken but we also use lean pork, fish and ground beef on occasion
  • Leftovers are acceptable but not an every single day solution which we are looking to solve with meal prep
  • Typical meals for us would be chicken alfredo, chop suey, tacos

As I mention above, we are brand new to this so I have a few more questions besides your recipe ideas

  • Is there a resource for meal prep recipes - most subreddits have a wiki or resources on the side bar but I didn't find anything like that over at /r/mealprep
  • Are there specific containers you that are recommended in our situation (I'm assuming the container used to store the prepared meal needn't necessarily be the same container that is taken to school and I am interested in ideas for both)
  • While this isn't strictly a cost/frugal decision, it is a significant portion of the reason we are doing it so what are your cost saving ideas with meal prep

If there is ANYTHING you can think of that would help besides what I have asked - please let me know.
