Some people don't put much thinking into this kind of stuff but you have to go into those places and be prepared for an interrogation.

Basically my recent visit went like this.

I picked out a truck at a dealership that I wanted to buy and had my older truck as a trade-in. Right away they wanted to know what I owed on my older vehicle. My response was "First we can do the trade-in quote and take it from there". Sales guy is obviously not happy with that but he puts on a smile and nods.

So a few mins go by and they come back with a $18,000 offer and they caught me by surprise since I only owed $13,000 on the truck and if I mentioned that I probably would've gotten only that amount for the truck. So I got the offer in writing and then handed over my loan information and I could see the salesmans face go ghost white.

So they stuck to their offer but they tried to delete rebates that the truck had offered on it and also raised up the prices on everything to try and makeup for their mistake. I basically just told them to return everything to normal and I would be happy to buy the truck today.

Ended up getting a $55,000 truck for $39,000 by smart planning and not giving into the salesmans tactics.

Thanks to some of the good posts I have seen on here it lead me to going into the dealership in a more confident mindset and not just some chump.
