I bought share back in the mid-1980s. Left them there and frankly forgot them.
I bought from a local broker (it was the 80s that's how it works back then) and used to get a statement from the brokerage firm they used when I bought or sold.
The local broker says it was too long ago and they have no record of me, that I need to call the brokerage firm.
The brokerage firm says I need proof I own the shares, but I no longer have the statement of the purchase, which seemed like a statement, not a bill of ownership.
The conversation got weird when the person said I had to prove I did not sell the share. Say what? How?
Are they required to keep a record of my account? This would be about $100k in stock in one company at this point.
How can I prove I have an account and have shares with them?
