Okay
so, I recently got my parents rav4 shipped to me across the states and I've been driving it for 6 weeks ish without problems. I work night shift, so I'm driving home at 2am and I get hit by a shitton of rain. I can barely see in front of me. I hit a baby deer, and it goes under my bumper but I stop before I roll over it.
I go home, file a claim on Geico. Geico schedules an appraisal like literally 7 days from the initial claim and basically sends me to drive 40 min away to see this dumbass who knows nothing about cars. He literally looks at the dents and takes pics of it (cuz I couldn't have done that a week ago... obviously).
I thought the appraiser would completely inspect my car and offer me an estimate, so I actually brought my vehicle to a couple mechanics beforehand and asked for a quote. They both pointed to the water pump and said it's rattling, we need to replace it. But basically they said "don't overheat the car, but it's driveable".
Perfect.
So today the appraiser literally told me an estimate on the BUMPER and told me that it can take 1+ weeks for geico to approve on the bumper damage. He said after Geico approves it, I should go to a mechanic and have them take a look under the hood. If they find something and they think that the deer accident is the problem, then geico will come take a look at it and offer a price if it's above my deductible.
And apparently that part takes 3-5 days too.
I drove it to work today and drove it back, wasn't looking at the engine heat light and it completely overheated and made a hissing sound. I stopped at the edge of a road, stayed on the edge and left it for about 20 min. I turned it back on (the dial wasnt on High anymore) so I lightly coasted it the 1 mile back home. My engine is making a SUPER loud hissing sound every time I turn it back on and accelerate, but when I'm coasting, it doesnt make that noise. I lifted the hood and theres a lot of oil everywhere.
I have no idea what my next steps are. I need this car to go to work. I'm PISSED that geico hasn't been helping. Do I tow it to the mechanic and just fix it myself before I get approval from geico? Do I try to talk to geico more?
