I have a private student loan for about $18,000 from Wells Fargo. I've been in and out of the hospital over the past few years and can only work about 8 hours a week due to mental health, psychosis issues. I called WF to ask the to set up a payment plan that matched my income and they told me that I make TOO LITTLE for them to work with me. Only people who make more can restructure their payments. Now I'm $1000 in the hole on payments and about to default. I've been sending them $30 here and $25.50 every month, basically all I can whenever I can (that is, if I want to eat). But that is nowhere near the $250 a month I owe them. I don't pay rent and most of my daily expenses are paid for by family. What can I do? I really don't want to default, it's not in my values system to do so. I feel trapped and hopeless.
