I am trying to refinish a chest, but it seems not to want to be refinished. I've spent hours and hours sanding it. I was a little worried about the look of the wood when it was naked, but figured with a dark stain it would even out. I was wrong. There seems to be no amount of sanding that will change some of these spots. The chest is made of solid cedar, red oak veneers and I think pine molding. After the first coat of stain turned out so blotchy I sanded it again, then noticed when I was washing off the grit it seemed to be having the same issue, repelling the water from some areas and not others. How do I fix this? Pictures in the link. http://ift.tt/2wOwEgx via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2f9tn1h
