I'm 26, work as a speech language pathologist in a public school, and I earn $44,000 before taxes. I don't enjoy my job at all and my salary won't increase significantly unless I change settings. I looked at the salary schedule and it looks like even after I have 15 years experience my salary will not reach $50,000.
My only debt is a $2,300 car loan with an interest rate below 3%. I have $22,000 in savings.
I regret spending thousands of dollars and years of my life getting a master's degree in this field. I don't want to do direct patient care. I want a career in a field that I don't hate and I want to earn a higher salary.
What are my options to maximize my earning potential? Does it make sense to use my savings to pursue another degree? Are there other jobs I can get without additional education? Are there certifications I can get to help me find a job with a higher salary?
Has anyone been in a similar position or have any suggestions?
