Hi everyone,

I'm 29 years old, unmarried, no dependents and currently work as an IT Project Manager in the UK (greater London area) and make GBP 50k/year (EUR 56k). I average working between 40-60 hours per week (overtime, including travel time, not compensated), depending on the projects I supervise. I have worked for this company less than a year and have about 2 years of total work experience in the IT sector (always as a PM). I graduated with a Master's degree in industrial engineering last year.

To be honest, and this is my biggest weakness, I still don't know what I'm worth, even when comparing to others, as I always feel like a "noob" and feel like I never know what I'm doing and I don't know how to make the best progress in my life. I also don't know where my careers can take me.

I like traveling for work, interacting with new people and working on always new projects. I love thinking about new solutions but get annoyed when I have to sell and set up stuff I don't care about (e.g. the solutions of my current company, which aren't really important to the future of society at all and end up being minor quality of life enhancements for customers of big companies).

After tax, insurance, and living expenses, I can save up about GBP 1500 (EUR 1700) per month.

So far, I used the money I save to pay off my student loans. I have become entirely debt free at the end of last June and have now about GBP 3000 (EUR 3300) in savings.

I do not own a car or real estate, my rent contract can be cancelled by the end of each month.

Now, while I like my job and love my friends and colleagues here, and travel around a lot, I do not really enjoy living in the UK in general as quality of life is relatively low and everything is overpriced, so my goal is to leave the country and return to EU mainland.

After a friend recommended me, I have now recently been invited for an interview in Vienna, Austria for a job as a Junior Business Analyst at a larger international IT Consulting Company. Vienna is one of my favourite cities on earth and I spent four years of my life studying and working there and would LOVE to return. At this consultancy, I expect to work only 40 hours per week with any overtime being generally written down and compensated in time off later, so that's certainly something to consider.

However, I do not know if this is a smart career move and what salary I should expect. I have never worked as a Business Analyst before and it is different from a PM after all, but I expect it will be enjoyable to me all the same.

Based on my years living in Vienna and my updated lifestyle, I believe my living expenses in Vienna will be around EUR 1500 (GBP 1300) per month. The websites say the salary for a Junior Business Analyst can be anywhere between 22k and 68k.

Apparently, the average salary for Junior Business Analysts is only EUR 32k/year (GBP 28k)? Although I believe that's just the average minimum salary offered on Junior BA job ads.

My questions:
1. Should I do this career switch? Is it a smart or utterly stupid move?
2. What should be the salary I should expect? What salary should I demand and what should be the threshold at which I say "no" to an offer that's too low?
3. I really love Vienna and would love to move away from the UK, but I don't want to ruin my future by making dumb decisions.

I'm scared of my future and not being able to make a good living for myself and my potential future family.
