Hopefully this is the right place to ask.
I occasionally have this urge to delete everyone off my social media account, and then to just delete the account itself. I just feel like it brings a lot of noise to my life. But here are some factoring things...
-
I'm not that kind of 22-year-old who has her head buried in her phone. (Spending time on the computer on the other hand...)
-
I unfollow every single one of my 'friends' on Facebook so their stuff doesn't pop up in my newsfeed. I literally don't care about Suzie's trip to McDonald's. Or who goes out where. I also have ZERO information about myself on my account. I don't post, I don't like, I don't check-in. I don't upload photos or videos. The most I do is save news articles so I can read them at a more convenient time, or reply to posts my friends tag me in that are worth a reply. Messenger would probably be my top though. I also don't 'rack up' friends either, my friends list only has 82 people and they are all people I've had some sort of significant contact with (whether uni projects, work, distant relative, etc).

I actually set up Facebook so it was my main source of current news. I realized that I was still on Facebook a lot, So I thought... may as well use the time I scroll through the news feed to gain relevant content. I would wake up, open Facebook, have a quick scroll, and usually get the day's current / top news that way. (Upworthy, a lot of the major news sites, TED, Futurism, Goodreads, etc).

I don't use other social media accounts (that well) (I completely skipped over the whole myspace phase and used Facebook and stuck to Facebook). I have Tumblr, which I scroll through and heart (or is it called 'note'? I never figured out the system). I have Pinterest boards where I pin all the nice book-related photos. These are the two I use on a very 'surface' level. I have twitter where I get current news and affairs (but I never even open it so I don't know why I still have it). I don't have Instagram. I don't have snapchat. I don't have line. I don't have WhatsApp. I don't have Viber.

Because I don't have any other 'social' accounts, there is no other way for me to really stay in contact with my closer friends (all who I've been friends with for over 12 years). I probably wouldn't even text them because I don't use my phone that often (barely make 12 calls a month, literally).
So I'm at this really weird impasse where I want to 'cleanse' my self and rid myself of this baggage.
But I have NO other way of staying in contact with my closest friends.
My workplace also has online enquiries accepted through Facebook - so we're actually required to have some sort of account on FB.
I use it as a news source, and I thought this was a sensible approach to turning something time-wasting into something a little more productive - but I feel like I STILL spend too much time on it.
I was hoping to get some suggestions on how I should approach this? Should I COMPLETELY keep my current FB with the barest of bones for work. Probably delete twitter. Still keep Pinterest (but delete app on my phone) and Tumblr. And get my news sources from somewhere like reddit?? I feel like social media is the easiest way for me to receive news, but I just get so tired of Facebook sometimes...
Thoughts?? Please and thank you.
