28yrs old, currently still living at home (rent free for now). For the last ~ 6yrs i've been basically working construction industry for cash. I really wasn't making much money at all, it wasn't consistent and I was going no where. I ended up getting a decent public sector job in the water industry for $42k a year (plus a ton of overtime).

So I wanna get my sh*t together and start putting some money away. I just got my second check, they started taking out for my pension (not even too sure how that works tbh, its a state pension through NJ). Not paying any union dues yet, until im off my "probationary" period around December.

My debt is a capital one cc - $3k. Ive had this balance for about 2 years now. I want to pay this freaking thing off.

My total bills right now are: CC payment, cellphone bill ($80), car insurance ($110) and basically that's it.

My vehicle is an older dodge ram. I am going to need a new truck(ideally) soon. I'm hoping my dodge can hold out until the winter at least, but it isn't in the best of shape. And now I am using it more than ever with my 2hr commute every day.. So I definitely need to budget for a new one.

I have practically ZERO savings. Id really like to change that, and now that I am making consistent money, I should be able to.

I'm also interested in the market and would like to start invest in a vanguard mutual fund (previously played around with penny stocks, would like something with low risk for long term). I have an etrade acct, currently with nothing in it. I planned on saving up 1k for it and opening the acct and just adding a % of each paycheck I get from here on out.

And other than that ideally I want to get out and move into an apt or house on my own. Rent is pretty expensive here ($1200 1br apt minimum) and even more expensive the closer I get to my job. Ideally id like to start dating again and maybe find a girl I could settle down with, but I have some serious anxiety issues that hold me back. Roomates are possible, but I really don't like that idea unless I know them prior to living with them.

Sorry for the rambling. Any help / advice is appreciated!
