Dear frugal companions,

First off, let me say that for most of my life I value saving money. However, this does not mean I should forego learning new skills and experience ALL the time.

One of the skills I've decided worthy enough for me to spend on would be to learn some sort of self defense fighting style. (Karate, Judo, etc.)

Has anyone coming from a frugal background made it a goal to put themselves through self defense classes? If so, which style did you pick and why?

How much did you pay and what was the class structure like?

Personally, I want to pursue this goal because I value the tangeable self-defense skill it will teach me, whilst boosting my overall physical activity and providing myself a means to accomplish things while mentally exhausted.

P.S. located in Canada, do you recommend any tips on finding the best deal for self defense classes?

TLDR;

I want to learn self defense classes, how should I go about picking what to learn to maximize money spent?

If you took classes, how much did you pay?

 Values:

  • Saving money

  • Legitimacy of real life application of self defense class

  • Boost in physical activity

Regards,
