Like the title says above, my roommate and friend recently found out that his family (mother and sister) have been stealing his identity for quite some time.
He lived with them, paying an exorbitant amount for rent, etc. While he was there with them and they could keep an eye on him (very controlling behavior if he went out anywhere, manipulation, etc) they took out a second mortgage or re-mortgaged the home in his name, took out a retail card and several other loans, all in his name. They also have a Credit Karma account linked to his social security under his sisters' email address.
He wasn't able to jump on it right away as this was a horrid shock for him, and we were moving into a new home to get away from his family and some problems I was having as well. There was also the problem of two other underage siblings as well as a deadbeat dad/husband who has probably fled the state back to one of his girlfriends.
Now we are getting the ball rolling. r/LegalAdvice advised me to come here and post for information that he can use. My friend is trying to get a lawyer right now, but we keep hearing about different things he needs to file charges against his mother and sister.
