My home was built in the 1910s. It has an old front porch, where the ledger board of the roof was simply nailed into the wood headers above the front window and door. Now the ledger board is pulling away, and its pulling the headers (and the brick veneer above them) away with it.Any advice on how to go about fixing this? If this were done properly, I imagine the ledger board would have been anchored somehow to the studs behind the brick veneer.I have thought about a teardown and a rebuild as a freestanding structure, but I'm in a heritage district, and the city is going to make me rebuild it to a decorative standard that will be prohibitively expensive. I'm also hesitant about digging for post holes so close to my foundation.Could I simply takes drill though the ledger board, through the brick veneer, into the studs, and pull the ledger board back with lag bolts? How would I go about finding studs? From the pick below, you also see that the board to which the rafters are attached doesn't seem to be affixed to the wall at all (ie it's just resting against it). Is that also a problem? Here's a pic that might help explain. http://ift.tt/2iJVFUn via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2vv8Tdx
