Hello PF,

I know that this is a fairly common question that gets asked but a few months ago I visited a walk in clinic that accepted my insurance. They performed a urinalysis which now I'm being asked to pay for as insurance has rejected it as out of network.

The thing that makes this weird is, I was not told the sample will be sent to any lab let alone an out of network lab, the doctor basically said they'll take a look at the urine sample, walked out for 5-10 mins and walked back in with results. I figured that they had done the test in house.

Sadly I received the letter from the lab on Friday so I haven't had a chance to call my insurance or the lab yet, but do I have any chance of fighting this? Any tips?

I vaguely remember signing a generic consent form but I don't remember if it specifically mentioned labs or out of network things. For worse case scenario lets assume I did sign something. I know New York has a "Protection from Surprise Bills and Emergency Services" law in place since 2015, would that apply here? http://ift.tt/1HhTSFO
