The typical investment advice that I hear, is that the average joe who does not want to spend hours analyzing financial statements should just stick to low-cost index funds and to max their 401k contributions each month. I am already investing in an low-cost index fund that tracks the S&P 500 and as soon as I get a job I'm planning on contributing to a 401k if they match at least 50 cents to the dollar. Are there any other investment vehicles I should consider? What about Money Market, Stock Funds, Bond Funds, International/Emerging Market, Dividend Yielding Funds?
