I'm replacing the ledger board as part of a deck repair and I'm adding 5/8", spacers since there is a brick veneer and normal flashing isn't really an option.Currently in use are 8" lag screws that go through the veneer into the frame of the house. Having taken one out, I was able to see down the hole and using some wire I confirmed that the tip of that screw was just sticking out of the other side. I can't see or access the other side, as it's under fully finished stairs.I'm thinking of using 10" lags instead of 8", to make sure I get into as much wood as possible. I know there's about 4" of veneer, but I'm not sure exactly how much wood there is on the other side (possibly a pair of 2x boards). So is it ok to use 10" lags and likely go 1.75-2" beyond the wood that's there? I'm only concerned about the hold strength, not hitting something on the other side.Or should I use 8" and end up 5/8" shorter? It's also too small and high for me to want to do a free float. Any insight is appreciated. Thanks. via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2vrduJB
