I am trying to get some goods from Texas to the East Coast. Not a ton of stuff but could probably fill a large size SUV. I've looked at a number of options and it all seems pretty exorbitant. Options discussed below.
UPS: Bulk shipping would probably cost about $300 for the freight in addition to the cost of packing it which I think would go into the $200-$300 range. I'm using their "freight estimator" tool so this could be way off.
One-way plane ticket and rent a car: $150 for plane ticket, the cheapest car rental is a toyota rav4 for $450. Gas would be about $120 plus a hotel room. The upshot here is that I would get to see a football game I've been wanting to see while in Texas. Downside is I don't know if I could fit everything in a Rav4. The Rav4 is a crazy deal, most of the others SUVS are in the $700-$800 range
U-Haul will not quote me a moving van, but I got quoted on a full size 12' Budget moving truck at $360, none of the companies would quote me on a cargo van. Inexplicably these huge moving trucks cost less than generic cars and SUVs.
PODS storage and shipping: quoted at $1600.
It looks like UPS might be the lowest by quite a bit, but still a lot of money. Unfortunately it looks like this is one instance where DIY will not save money.
Are there any other options I am not considering? Thanks in advance.
