Okay, to set the scene my parents are divorced, in my house there's just me (23) my little brother (19) and my mum, living in Scotland. For years unbeknownst to me and my siblings my mum has been slipping into debt, re mortgaging the house, taking out loans etc. Until it got to the point last year we had to sell the house or risk the bank taking it. From this my mum walked away with £40k in hand and we began renting a small property. Despite my pleas for my mum to put away the money from the house in a retirement fund she blew it all (she is truly awful with money). Now I work full time and make about £1500 post tax, my mum was let go about the time we lost the house, so i pay the £700 rent plus whenever my mum asks to "borrow" 20 here or 100 there every other day, she's also taking money from my little brothers student loan she made him take out. I don't mean to sound selfish or ungrateful to my mum, but I feel like I would be much better off if I were living alone, but also I believe income to the household stops my mum from receiving the full amount of benefits she would otherwise. Ignoring the fact my mother drives me crazy, from a purely financial point of view, would it make more sense if I were to move out?
