Not a full study with multiple testers, etc. - I have been buying the 0.69/# chicken for a few years and decided to test to see what I was missing. I bought some of each, trimmed, then froze half. The $2.29/# chicken had 4-5 oz less fat and skin per # than the $0.69/#; 28%, so $0.69/# is more like $0.88/#. The $2.29 chicken had 2-3 oz of back (bone) attached as did the $0.69 chicken.
At this point, they were mixed together - I tried and could not tell them apart. No noticeable color or other differences. They were just Winn-Dixie and Fresh Market - not organic or otherwise special. I brined for a day, then roasted with roots as I usually do. I ate the portions over the next few days. No noticeable difference.
I thawed, brined and roasted the remaining portions. No noticeable difference.
