Something I've been debating with myself about recently. I've been trying out the local university buses (which are free) to commute to work. That requires a 15 min walk to the bus stop though, in the heat and some hills with a back pack. This extra 30 mins of walking a day obviously makes me sweaty, tired, etc and as a result, I have to eat significantly more food and therefore spend more money on food. Being so tired in the evening also takes time from me working on my side hustle, doing house chores, etc

I always drive on Friday though as a reward and because I don't want to leave my car sitting for too long.

Another thing to note is that once Fall classes start, there will be more routes. The closest stop will then be 8-10 mins away instead of 15.

Bike commuting was something I also considered, but I am just not in shape enough to handle the heat and the hills. Not yet at least. I figured walking to the bus stop would help segue me into that. I'm not even sure if I'm out of shape or if it's just the heat making things difficult.

I also worry that I'll lose too much weight. I'm already pretty thin right now.

TLDR Am I really saving money taking the bus if it's coming with all these sacrifices (eating more/buying more food, possibly losing too much weight, too tired to do anything in the evening)? Maybe I should wait until the fall when it's less hot and there's a closer stop? Maybe drive 2x a week instead of once until then? In the future, how do I figure out these cost benefit analysis on my own?
