I didn’t know exactly where to post this, but I figured r/diy would be the best place to start. I just started renting a 2bedroom house/duplex that’s supposedly 100~ years old. It was also supposedly vacant for 8 months.New laminate floors were put in up and down stairs, new fridge and new oven. I’ve been in it for about a week and get an old house/musty smell when I walk into the kitchen. The kitchen has a half bathroom, the washer/dryer, furnace, and hot water heater all in close proximity. I do not notice the smell on the second floor where the bedrooms are, but that area also gets a lot more air circulation. Could this be a normal smell associated with an old house or could it be a more serious issue such as mold? I’ve never been around mold before to know what it smells like. I haven’t noticed any black or green or fuzzy spots anywhere. If it is mold, how much do inspections generally cost for a small place? How likely is it to be dangerous? via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2ue5sXP
