As background, I was sought out by a potential employer (with whom I had previously worked), who is very interested in hiring me. After completing my in-person interviews, the potential employer has contacted me numerous times and is very excited at the prospect of me as an employee.
Today I had my final phone call in the interview process, which covered potential salary. When asked for my minimum desired salary I accidentally gave $52k in the heat of the moment. This is actually lower than my current role, and I should've stated a figure upwards of $60k. The employer confirmed that my salary figure was definitely doable, and the call concluded.
Is it reasonable to call back and restate my minimum desired salary? I want to clear this up with the employer ASAP, so they do not offer me too low of a salary. My first thoughts were to use the excuse that I mistakenly said $52k (slip of the tongue), when I meant $62k. Another possible argument to make is that this new job entails a significantly longer commute, which could justify the higher salary.
How can I fix this?! Thanks in advance for any replies; everything helps!
