I discovered that I can clean the inside of my thermos by using denture cleaning tablets. My hand won't fit inside, so this is the easiest method.

And Dollar Tree sells 20 packs of Efferdent, which is what I use. These are also handy for cleaning water bottles. The good thing here is that these tablets also eliminate the smell from the thermos.
