I'm in FL and also in a house apartment. I did some research on whole house surge protectors, and I decided that I wanted to install this one:http://a.co/4QEiA4RI have not purchased it yet. According to some videos on youtube and other sources, it requires a dedicated 50A breaker, which is fine except for the fact that my main breaker bus doesn't have room. The panel itself has room, and the common bus has room, but they went bare minimum for the main breaker bar, unfortunately. So, what was supposed to be a simple installation is now potentially cost and time prohibitive.Pictures of the situation: http://ift.tt/2sjRKOw include:Something I probably am not aware of (a placeholder)Extend the mains bus and incur the work of removing all breakers, etc.A subpanel, but that seems pointless wrt to surge protectionAttach it to the already existing 50A breaker with the understanding that whatever is also attached is toast.FPL's scam at-meter surge protection - not initially chosen because the idea of $10 in perpetuity is ludacrious for something they should already be doing.Buy better outlet surge protectors and forget about thisI don't want to put more than $200 into this since I'll likely leave it with the unit and take it as a loss. via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2tFS7qb
