My first real DIY home improvement project! Just bought this house with a large outdoor screen enclosure, and I wanted a doggy door so my dogs can go in and out without me having to compromise the bug-barrier of the screen itself.Posted in the questions thread the other day and got some good ideas to use a large piece of plyboard to cover the hole and then cut into that to mount the door, but when I went to Home Depot and talked to a guy to get some board, he actually had another idea. We went to the screen enclosure section and had the idea to move the center brace bar up to the height of the door, rebolt that down, then use that as the top brace of the door. Fill in the gap with another 2x2 aluminum brace and it looks almost professional! Here is the original view, and the outside viewSo I removed the kick plate, raised the center bar, resecured and attached the doggy door.Dogs seemed to like it so farIt was functional at this point, but then to finish it up I got a 2"x2"x8' aluminum bar, bought a dremel and cutter and got to work getting it the correct size.Slid that in the gap on the right side of the doggy door and used some L-brackets to bolt it in, leaving us with thisAnd the inside view, completedI still want to get some black caulk just to seal the edges a bit, and I have some screen enclosure paint to paint the screwheads the correct color, but overall I think it came out really well! Really secure, doesn't wobble and with the caulk in place, should be no less bug-preventative than before via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2sFMqUS
