Several months ago I got the Chase Sapphire Preferred card since I am working abroad for the next few months. My cycle ends on the 22nd. On May 31, I paid my entire outstanding balance. I logged in this morning and see that I've exceeded my credit limit, there is a $150 interest charge on my account, and my credit score has dropped.

After calling Chase, they notify my that after I made the payment, they were not able to complete it because "the account number you entered doesn't exist." I have an e-mail from Chase confirming that my payment was received, but I received no call, text, or e-mail saying that it had subsequently been returned. When I explained this to rep on the phone, he said "we sent you a letter in the mail." Are you kidding me? The whole reason I got this card was because I needed a travel card, and now you're going to send me critical account info only through snail mail in the US? When I asked him about this, he said, "It would be impossible for us to notify all of our customers every time their payments are declined." Bullshit. I get daily marketing emails from Chase, but not a word when they return a payment I make?

What are my options? Can I appeal the interest charge? Is there a way to remove this from my credit score?

Thanks.
