I've been watching up YouTube videos -- one video that I watched all the way through even though it won't be relevant to me for some time (not yet a driver) was a video by ChrisFix showing how to do an oil change yourself.

I also watched this video by a Canadian news company that reveals shady practices in the industry.

What also inspired me to make this was how I saw a comment on an old showerthoughts thread from a few weeks ago (can't for the life of me remember the name) where a guy mentioned how his family thinks he's an auto repair genius, but in reality he just watches DIY tutorials all day :D

So I just wanted to ask you guys who are big into driving, do you think doing DIY work on your own car (through YouTube/internet tutorials) and avoiding shady businesses as much as you need is a good idea? Do you recommend this as a cheaper and easier way and a way to avoid these predatory practices? Are most of the common car repairs (i.e. oil changing) possible to safely, cheaperly, and effectively do on your own (assuming you have the time and patience to watch/read the information and do it yourself)?
