Hello, I recently posted a Craigslist ad to sell my car for $1000. I received an email from an interested party, who wanted to buy it sight unseen.
He said because of his job, he couldn't come pick it up, but had a "shipper" willing to come get it for him. He said he would pay me via PayPal in advance. This seemed off to me, but I assume PayPal is secure right?
He added something that sent up a huge red flag for me. He couldn't get cash to his "shipper" to pay him for his work, so he wanted to send that money to me in addition to the $1000 for the car, and then I would give my car, and the extra money to the "shipper". My instinct is that I would ultimately be handing some random person my car and some cash, and I would end up with an over drawn bank account.
How does this scam work if they are paying via paypal? Isn't it supposed to prevent this kind of scam?
