Split into two ETFs with low expense ratio, or a single one with a higher expense ratio?

Let's say I want to invest in mid-cap and small-cap ETFs, what would be a better idea?

Split it between:

Vanguard Mid-Cap ETF (VO) expense ratio: 0.06%

and

Vanguard Small-Cap ETF (VB) expense ratio: 0.06%

Or just go with:

Vanguard Extended Market ETF (VXF) expense ratio: 0.08%

Which covers both mid cap and small caps and has a higher expense ratio?
