I think it took longer to install the Raspberry PI OS than the configuration of the system. I set up the weather using Weather Underground (DAK Board feature), and created a DropBox account to store the wallpaper. My wife likes Monet, so I loaded it up with Monet, as well as some Ansel Adams. We all have Google Calendars displayed on the Picture Frame which has proven remarkably useful for coordinating schedules.Total cost was about $80 for the Raspberry Pi, and $100 to have the outlet installed behind the TV. I got our TV from my father in law. The wall mounting bracket for the TV was $26 from Amazon.I had the thought that since a Pi is a computer, it should be able to play MP3s. I loaded some MP3s onto the PI user directory. Now we get Westminster Chimes at noon. I also added some bugle calls. The Picture Frame plays First Call five minutes before we have to all get in the car to go to school, and then plays Assembly when we need to head out to the car. The kids got trained pretty quick, and it has been really useful. I used to have Also Sprach Zarathustra play at 6am because I thought it would give a dramatic start to the day, but I was vetoed after the first day. Finally, I used the Magic Picture frame as our DNS server using Pi Hole. I figured the Picture Frame had cycles to spare, and using Pi Hole has really trimmed out a lot of ads. via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2rUlguv
