Short Story: Shopping for a new DSLR camera, I decided to Google for discounts. Ran into worthless pages from RetailMeNot and SlickDeals.
So instead, I started a Live Chat with two competing retailers: B&H and Adorama. Neither had any discounts advertised. Same price. Asked if either would be willing to offer a discount. B&H couldn't budge, but Adorama reduced my price by 5%. Small savings, but worth the extra time. Pretty effortless too.
