This may not be the best sub for this question, but I'd like a simple way to keep my home cool. What are the best methods? I don't like or want an air conditioning unit.
Here is my scenario: I am not ground level. I'm above a garage and that first floor stays relatively cool. I have no windows open on the first floor, but I have a fan blowing around. My shades are closed, no curtains. Upstairs is where the heat is, obviously. I have a window fan in my bedroom on exhaust, I have another window fan in my stairwell pulling air in (no exhaust feature, but I guess I could turn it around if that would help). I have a ceiling fan running on low because it shakes too much on higher speeds and I don't feel like having my head cut off if it decides to fall (that's not realistic). My upstairs is weird, it's like a loft. From the first floor to the second floor are huge windows reaching floor to ceiling for the most part. I think this draws a lot of heat in.
Any ideas on what I can do? When the air is warm and stale outside it's difficult to get a cool breeze running through the house.
